Spam Filtering Software
Spam (Junk Mail) also known as
unsolicited bulk e-mail (ube) or unsolicited commercial e-mail (UCE) has
become a real problem for e-mail these days. It's compounded by people
harvesting your e-mail off chat rooms, WebPages and newsgroups. If the
internet could once again be ad-free, that would be GREAT! Sadly, the
annoying abuse termed direct marketing, bulk mailing or targeted
marketing goes on daily.
By using Spam Shield, you can reduce or
even completely eliminate junk mail from your inbox. It all
depends on how you use the 'whitelist' feature. When you install it,
SpamShield imports your contacts so you never have to worry about
missing an important e-mail from a friend, customer or business partner.
In addition to this, when you have junk
mail 'spam' you can process it with SpamShield that will safely
determine if you can be unsubscribed from whatever mailing list sent it.
This way your e-mail address isn't harvested by spam bots who are
looking to confirm your e-mail is working so they can sell it as a
'verified e-mail address'.
In regards to the 'remove' link pasted
into spam you receive, here's a page that explains
why you should NEVER use those links or reply! Instead, let SpamShield
determine if the spam e-mail can be unsubscribed from.
For me the biggest concern is child safety online being exposed to
these deceptive marketers peddling drugs, porn and other unsavory things
So you ask...how to get rid of spam? well for starters filtering junk
mail is one way using your e-mail client. Blocking spam is another.
The Coalition against unsolicited mail (c.a.u.c.e. for short) has many
resources to help educate you in the fight against spam. You as a
consumer can also fight back by NEVER BUYING A SPAMMER'S ADVERTISED
PRODUCTS/SERVICES. This will put the company paying the spammer out of
business.

Now, back to the more practical solutions
of how to get rid of spam. You can use a mail filter software (for Mac
or windows) which already knows what spam is. It gets updated online and
helps in keeping you from screaming "my in box is full of
spam!!". O.K. so now the obvious question: which is the best spam
filter? My personal favorite is SpamShield. With it, I am able to
receive e-mails of any kind from all my contacts, meanwhile spammers get
the door slammed in their face!
